President Trump has launched a war that offers opportunities to the Middle East and threatens constitutional freedom at home. American service members are bravely risking their lives to protect their country from nuclear dangers—and to restore freedom to the Iranian people who have sacrificed so much to reclaim that freedom for themselves. The instinct to rally around the flag is, and should be, strong. It’s also urgent to rally around the principles and ideals for which the flag stands.

There are in the world of politics a very special group of people who advance events. For these folks, no detail is too small and avoiding the slightest mistake along the way is, well, an obsession.

The individuals who serve as advance men and women for Presidents, Vice Presidents and other prominent officials often gather to relax and share stories, stories heretofore seldom shared with those outside the circle.

Now, a longtime and very good friend of mine, Tom Collamore, has co-authored a book with Jean Becker that tells some of the best stories. It’s a compilation that has been in the works for a while, crossing political boundaries and multiple administrations with nearly 100 contributors (yours truly being one of them because I could not resist - I really wasn’t an advance man, I just played one on TV).

The book is DON’T TELL THE PRESIDENT. It can be ordered now and will be available early in February. I must say, it is entertaining and reminded me of more than a few of the close calls that were avoided while out on the road.

Right now, with a book tour about to get underway, Tom has decided to share the journey with a newsletter, BEHIND THE CURTAIN. The plan is to tell stories from the road as Presidential libraries, book stores and various establishments where books are sold are visited around the country. And, there is another motivation. He hopes to encourage others along the way to share a few “untold” stories. And, some of those stories might just end up in the newsletter.
